College T-Shirt Day is Every Thursday!
Information for Students
Lawson 101
What can I wear to school?
All students are expected to follow the Lawson Dress Code. Students should dress comfortably and appropriately to avoid distracting the learning environment. Key guidelines include ensuring proper lengths, no ski masks, and keeping undergarments hidden. Students should refer to the JLHS dress code for additional details.
When can I use my cell phone or electronics?
Per Tennessee state law (HB932/SB897) and MNPS policy, cell phones, personal electronic devices, and/or wireless communication devices are not permitted during instructional time. To support compliance with this policy, a secure lockbox has been provided in every classroom for students to safely store their phones and personal devices during the school day. If a student is found in violation of this policy, all personal electronics will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. In the event of an emergency, administration and/or teachers will provide students with instructions for accessing their phones or communicating with family as needed.
What are the breakfast & lunch procedures?
Breakfast & Lunch are served each day Free of Charge to students. Breakfast will be served from 6:45-7:00a.m. Students are assigned a 30 min. Lunch. Students may bring lunch and use the school-supplied microwaves in the cafeteria.
Can I leave for lunch or order food to be delivered?
James Lawson is a closed campus. Students may not leave campus to purchase food or have food delivered (DoorDash/Uber Eats, etc.). All food delivered to the campus will be rejected. Our student body enjoys Bojangles days throughout the school year.
When will I receive my MNPS laptop?
Technology plays a very important role in any student's success in high school and beyond. Our media specialist and admin team work very hard to issue all students a MNPS laptop within the first two weeks of school. After all laptops have been issued students are required to bring their MNPS issued laptop and charger daily. Students that do not follow this policy will be expected to call home and will not be permitted to enter classes until a parent or guardian brings their device.
